SCOM was privileged to be one of the key organisers of the Malawi Youth Outreach and Empowerment Forum held in Lilongwe from 26th – 28th March, 2026 initiated by Spread Truth Africa (STA). STA is a Faith-Based Not-For-Profit Organization with an aim of raising communities that are value driven, with a keen focus on the youth. Other collaborating partners in the Malawi Youth Outreach and Empowerment Forum included Pentecostal Assemblies of Malawi (PAOM), Go Live Dare Foundation Zambia, Scripture Union Zambia, Scripture Union Malawi and Youth with a Mission (YWAM). The Lilongwe initiative sought to convene the youth in Lilongwe through three key components:
• Sports Tournament for Evangelism, using football, netball and volleyball to promote discipline, teamwork, faith, and positive youth engagement (26th – 28th).
• Youth Dialogue sessions to create space for structured conversations around leadership, employment, education, and youth inclusion (27th).
• Culture Festival and Awards Ceremony, celebrating creativity, unity, and community while recognizing youth talent and participation (28th).
6 SCOM associates were among volunteers from different churches and organisations who were engaged in sharing the Gospel with young people and communities during the sports and cultural festival award ceremony at and around the Chilimmpunga grounds in Mtandire. According to Spread Truth Africa records 574 young people made decisions to receive Christ.
SCOM was also key in organising the Youth Dialogue seminar alongside Scripture Union Malawi. SCOM took the leading role to mobilise youth from different sectors such as the Lilongwe civil society, Youth lead organisations, Universities, Malawi Scotland Partnership, Girl Guide, and churches. Held at the Capital City Baptist, Old Sanctuary over 185 youth and youth leaders turned up. At this youth dialogue there was a statistical presentation about state of the youth in Malawi prepared by the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM). Among other speakers, Reverend Hamisi Kirenga, CEO of Spread Truth Africa spoke about three aspects of ‘Purpose’. With reference to the story of the four men with leprosy in 2 Kings 7, Rev. Kirenga said purpose begins when someone refuses to stay stuck. Staying still may result into death as such movement needs to be taken as a priority. Purpose is also found when a risk is taken. Young people need to take the risk of ending some bad relationships, sin or fear of failure. Thirdly, he said, purpose is usually bigger than personal success. When the four men entered the camp of the Syrians, they realised they were not doing good by concentrating on taking care of themselves but needed to share the good news to the people.
