REGIONAL LEADERS ORIENTATION

It is a practice in SCOM to conduct leadership training or orientation of its newly elected leaders to enhance effectiveness as they assume their roles. After a new structure was adopted around 2020 it was found to be even more important to conduct such orientations to leaders at the regional level to familiarize them with the new structure and its implementation expectations.  A regional leader’s orientation was conducted in 2021 and after a considerable period it was deemed necessary to conduct the same in 2025. Sessions covered were SCOM Governance, Student and Associates Outreach Directorate (SAOD), Business Investments and Fundraising (BIF), Social Development Commission (SODEC), Ladies’ coordination and Reporting. During this specific orientation SCOM also facilitated a session on transformative leadership. This was very important to align the leaders with the four years Presbyterian Church in Ireland project that SCOM was conducting among universities across the nation.

57 (43 males 14 females) associates leaders were oriented in SCOM governance, core functions and transformational leadership. The southern and eastern regions were combined together to hold one workshop on 16 – 17 August at James Chiona High School. The workshop was conducted on 23 – 24 August at Baptist University in Lilongwe catering for central region and on 6 – 7 September at William Koyi in Mzuzu catering for Northern region. Below are tables summarizing the conferences participation in the regions.
